Attending Romance author Caris Roane guest post

Hi, Everyone!  Caris Roane here.  I thought I'd tell you a little bit about my background and why I not only write for New York, but Indie publish as well.

I've been a published author for a long time now, having written sweet Regency romance for Kensington for 18 years until 2005.  After that, I sold my Guardians of Ascension series - my most beloved winged vampires - to St. Martin's Press at almost the same time that the digital revolution swept through the industry changing the game forever.

I've been encouraged from almost every possible source to embrace Indie publishing while still publishing with my New York house, so my reasons for doing both are varied.  For one thing, digital is here to stay and will only get stronger as the years move along.  For another, Indie publishing allows me to write whatever I want to write, something that's very appealing to all authors.  Finally, because the digital community is so different from the traditionally published community, I wanted to jump in with both feet, which means doing my own self-publishing and the accompanying, vast, and often frustrating self-promotion.

Currently, I have five self-published projects that I'm promoting and will soon release my sixth.  My most recently published Indie book continues my Guardians of Ascension series and takes place one month after GATES OF RAPTURE, released in December of 2012.  This new Indie book, THE DARKENING, follows Warrior Samuel and his woman, or breh, Vela, as they take a journey through a place called, you guessed it, 'the darkening'!

A tortured warrior and a peace-loving counselor battle to protect Second Earth against a powerful dark force…

He thwarted connection of any kind…
Fearing that his newly emerged grayle power will kill innocent ascenders, Samuel Daman struggles to keep his distance from beautiful Vela Stillwell.  But the breh-hedden has struck and her light floral scent tears at his restraint.  When the enemy draws them both into the darkening, a place of secret travel for Third ascenders, will Samuel learn to control his power, or will he destroy what he desires most?
She hid from grief…
Vela Stillwell wanted a new life, away from Militia Headquarters, away from the reminder of all she’d lost when her husband died five years earlier.  Seeking a more reclusive occupation, she finishes her last day of work only to have Samuel Daman and the infamous breh-heddensweep through her life.  Though trying to disconnect from her new emerging power and from Samuel, the call of the darkening pulls Vela into an adventure that both terrifies her, yet reveals the truth about her deepest desires.  Will she succumb to the breh-hedden, or will her fears prevent her from living life to the fullest?
